RV Electrical Hookup | | | Cooked 30 Amp RV Receptacle | Jeff posits: "..seems like something is not working correctly."
That gets me started. How many of these things I've had to replace! All and I mean all that I have been able to procure thus far, different manufactures, different looks and differing circumstances have led me to the invariable conclusion that whoever are making these things are not making them robust enough. That is, the materials used are not up to snuff and not tested under rated load range of current while under direct sunlight.
Meaning it should be able to handle 30 Amps of continuous draw all day and all night in the Mohave desert for 30 days without showing signs of melting.
It falls short of that. My guess is that some material was whipped up in a sink somewhere, called good and allowed to be massed produced by the millions effectively putting out of business all of the domestic manufacturers.
What is not correct? Regulation that would otherwise insist on on our Government making sure it was right. At Amazon website, looking for a replacement I saw the words "Not for sale in Canada" Aha! Somebody doesn't accept this stuff with little room to wonder why.
| Another cooked 30A receptacle, this one off of my father in law's rig.
Lots of commentary on the Good Sam site about this, most of it barking up the wrong tree. The one comment about melting down in Mexico where it is hot. I was in the Florida keys when one of mine got so hot it was catching fire! Wherever these things are made the engineered materials are simply not up to the heat generated by necessary flow of current to run the air conditioner and being in hot temperatures and under direct sunlight.
